Making the Most of Your Visit to Urgent Care

by | Jul 29, 2019 | Urgent Care

While we would all love to stay happy and healthy, there will inevitably be moments when you find yourself in need of immediate medical attention. For times when your doctor is booked and you’d rather not spend hours in the Emergency Room, an urgent care clinic is the ideal choice to receive quick, convenient, and cost-effective care. To make the most of your visit, consider the following:

Avoid Peak Times

An opportune way to access medical care, urgent care clinics are often busier between standard business hours. To dodge long waits, make an effort to avoid peak busy hours (before 9am, after 5pm, around lunchtime, and over the weekend). In a pinch, check online to see if your nearest UC clinic has an online check-in system.

Seek an Appropriate Level of Care

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, urgent care is NOT appropriate. Similarly, medical care that can wait for your doctor’s office to open on Monday does not necessarily need to be seen by a UC physician. Of course, your comfort and health are of the utmost importance, and it is better to be safe than sorry.

Have Your Insurance (or Credit) Card Ready

Most urgent care facilities accept a wide range of insurance, as well as offer payment plans for those without coverage. Come prepared to the clinic with whichever you’ll be using; if possible, call your provider ahead of time to check UC rates under your plan.

Know Your Medical History

While you may not need a complete list of allergies for a physician to look over your sprained ankle, it is worth knowing your medical history to ensure that everything goes as planned. Bring along documentation if you have it, or at least be willing to share pertinent information if requested.
