3 Tips for Preparing Your Dog for Boarding

by | Apr 12, 2019 | Pet Service

When you are a dog owner, you may run into a situation when you have to leave him in the care of a professional, overnight. Leaving your dog in the care of someone else can be just as tough as dropping off your children at daycare. Dog Boarding NYC professionals are trained to put your mind at ease and keep your dog comfortable throughout his stay at their facility.

Here are three tips for preparing your dog for boarding.

Consider a Test Run

You do not know how your dog is going to react once he realizes that you have left and he is not leaving with you. Some dogs are calm, other dogs have a different reaction. It is never a good idea to put a dog in a situation so stressful that he could cause harm to himself. When you are considering putting him in a boarding facility, therefore, consider going through a trial run. The staff at the facility can let you know how it went, and then, you can make a decision.

Pack A Bag

If you believe that your dog is going to be able to handle being boarded for a few nights, you are encouraged to pack a bag for him. In his bag, include food, favorite toys and a reminder of home. If he is given medications, be sure to pack those, too. You should also include at least one leash and any other special items you know he enjoys.

Drop off in the Morning

Dog owners are encouraged to drop off their dogs at a boarding facility in the morning. This gives them the opportunity to get to know their surroundings instead of worrying and not sleeping at night.
