When doing projects in the backyard, there may be times when you need to level the ground. Unfortunately, not many people know exactly how to do this. Here are some instructions on how to get this particular job done.
Beginning
How do you level ground? The first thing you will want to do is to stake off the area that needs to be leveled. This way there is no guesswork involved, the area is predetermined. Next, you will want to use a string level to determine the highest point of the land. You will want to raise the ground up to this level. If drainage is a concern, you will need to adjust for the grade as well. Experts recommend a 1″ grade for every 4 feet of land that leads away from the house.
Second Step
The second step in answering the question of “how do you level ground?” is to remove the grass in the partitioned area. If the area is smaller, you may not need to do this, but if it’s a larger area, then you for sure will have to remove the grass. You can use a basic spade shovel to perform this action. Add the topsoil to the freshly uncovered area. If you are adding a structure in this area, you can simply use sand or basic topsoil. However, if you are going to regrow the grass, you will want well-nourished soil.
